Bainbridge Island Japanese American Community

Legacy Family Membership Sign-up

Attention Legacy Families!

If you are a survivor of the WWII Japanese American Incarceration of Bainbridge Islanders, or if you are a direct descendant of one of the families that was incarcerated, you are now automatically a free lifetime member of BIJAC.

How do I know if I qualify?
Simple–if you see members of your family on the Exclusion Memorial Wall, then you are a member of a Legacy Family. If you are the spouse of a survivor, then you qualify, too.

Do I need to pay my BIJAC membership dues?
No, if you are a Legacy Family member, you are a member of BIJAC for life and do not need to pay the $20 annual membership dues, ever. Of course you are always welcome to make a voluntary, tax-deductible donation to BIJAC to support our education and outreach efforts. It’s completely up to you.

How do I make sure BIJAC knows I want to be counted as a Legacy Family member?
To let us know you want to be included in our official membership roster, please fill out the form below. We’ll be sure and include you with the Legacy Family designation.

Why does it matter whether I sign up as a Legacy Family member?
It’s always a good idea to stay in touch with the community! Importantly, all paid members and Legacy Family members have voting rights in BIJAC board elections. The next BIJAC board election will be held in November, 2021.
