Many recall walking to school in heavy dust storms. School was the main occupation for the younger camp prisoners. During the summer and in their spare time, many youth also found part time jobs as field-hands, nursing assistants, house cleaners for the camp administrators, maintenance personnel, truck drivers, and clerical workers.
