Otohiko and Hatsuko Koura
After immigrating to the US in the early 1900s, the Kouras lived in Seattle then
Isosaburo and Tome Katayama and daughter May – Circa 1916
The Katayama farm was located at the corner of Cave Avenue and Winslow Way in
Dwelling in Yama – late 19th Century
Though simple and unpainted on the outside, these homes were brightly colored and wallpapered on
Yama at Port Blakely – late 19th Century
With lumber donated by the mill, Japanese immigrants built these homes along the hillside above
