Bainbridge Island Japanese American Community

In Memory of Jonathan Kodama

It is with great sadness that the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Community says ‘goodbye’ to Jonathan “Jon” Mark Kodama. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his mother, Lilly Kodama, and the rest of the Kodama family.   ~BIJAC

On Wednesday, July 26, 2023, Jonathan ‘Jon’ Mark Kodama passed away at home in Lynnwood, WA, after defying odds and living with cancer for 10 years.

He was born in Seattle, WA to Mitsuhiro and Lilly Kodama on November 30, 1957. He attended Renton High School and Whitman College, and received an architectural degree from the University of Washington. He prospered as a Contract Administrator for Avidex with his uniquely analytical and creative mind.

Brilliant, engaging, and thoughtful, he was a devoted husband and proud father who generously shared his knowledge, advice, and smiles with everyone. He loved golfing, trying his luck at the casino, music from the ’60’s and ’70’s, vacations in Hawaii, and sipping a neat Crown Royal.

Jon’s eternal optimism and courage will be forever cherished by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched.

Preceded in death by his father, Mitsuhiro, he is survived by his remarkable wife of 35 years, Connie; daughter, Alyssa; mother, Lilly; sisters, Mari Juntunen (Rod), Sue Kato (Ray, and daughters Mikayla and Amanda), Kara Gajowskyj (Alex, and daughter Sophie); as well as several extended family members.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 4, 12:00-3:00PM; Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home 11111 Aurora Ave N. Seattle.

Services will be held Friday, September 8, 2023, 9:00AM; St. Catherine Catholic Church 814 NE 85th St. Seattle 98087, and a Celebration of Jon’s Life will follow, 11:00AM-2:00PM; Ballard Elks Lodge Hall 6411 Seaview Ave NW, Seattle 98107
